Position Summary: The PFS Assistant Manager will contribute to the day-to-day operations on issues related to Patient Financial Services functions and be an integral part of the revenue cycle management team.

Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.

Licensure: N/A

Certification: N/A

Experience:

  • 3+ years experience in revenue cycle knowledge required.
  • 1+ years of leadership experience preferred.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • This position requires a great deal of time management.
  • Must be able to demonstrate calm and rational thinking and be able to communicate and provide detailed explanations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Must have the ability to accomplish multiple tasks and prioritize activities to meet customer demands and project deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Must possess sensitivity and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Job Functions

  • Monitor team member performance. Conduct team member coaching when appropriate. Identify and respond to incidents that are not consistent with organizational policies and procedures and utilize good coaching methodologies consistent with the individual and incident. Conduct team member performance evaluations timely. Ensure accurate and timely documentation to support action taken.
  • Provide or coordinate training of team members. Orient new team members or delegate training to an experienced mentor for all departmental policies and procedures. Orient new team members on current information technology and modules related to revenue cycle. Assess progress and competency ongoing.
  • Communicate and train current team members on procedural or system changes either in one-on-one or by group in-service. Facilitate cross-training of current team members.
  • Monitor and manage team member time off request ensuring appropriate staffing levels to meet business needs. Responsible for timely and accurate submission of payroll for department.
  • Provide day to day leadership to Patient Financial Services team. Oversee department functions. Serves as a resource and role model.
  • Creates and fosters teamwork among team members.
  • Monitor workflow and facilitate specific work assignments and/or projects when needed.
  • Positively contributes to the department and organization by actively engaging in projects and initiatives, leading team members by example.
  • Assist Patient Financial Services Manager in development of quality standards. Conduct routine quality audits of team members on defined processes and provide timely feedback to team member and management regarding performance.
  • Identify areas of need for Quality & Process Improvement and recommend changes to policies and procedures. Provide written rough drafts of recommended changes.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all PFS functions and electronic medical record.
  • Promote BEST patient experience and excellent customer service.
  • Act as a PFS liaison with other departments to coordinate functions that impact Patient Financial Services.
  • Organize and facilitate team meetings weekly and individual one-on-one quarterly.
  • Demonstrates self-motivating and time management skills to complete assigned work, assist others and maintain high productivity.
  • Attend and complete mandatory education programs timely.
  • Engage in educational opportunities for professional development consistent with individual goals and organizational needs.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality by understanding HIPAA regulations.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures, regulatory requirements such as OSHA and JACO and participate in hospital wide safety activities.
  • Serves as a role model for Always TRUE and the OrthoNebraska Way.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical requirements: This position is classified as Sedentary Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally) up to (33% of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (33%-66% of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
